Kerry counters war ad criticism as campaigns clash
Democrats push new TV spots praising Kerry as fit for command while the White House accuses him of losing his temper over Vietnam medal claims. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth expand ads in several states as polls show voters see the attacks and independents find them believable. Kerry allies cite endorsements from veterans. Ballantine Ad Draws GOP Help and Dems Protest
In Raleigh the North Carolina Democratic Party filed a petition alleging a national GOP group’s television commercial backing Patrick Ballantine violates state election law by advocating for a candidate rather than addressing issues. The RGA contends the ad is legal and approved, with Ballantine trailing Gov. Mike Easley in polls and funding.
