Self-contained artificial heart patient identified in Louisville
The world’s first self contained artificial heart was implanted July 2 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville in a patient identified as Robert Tools a 50s diabetic man with heart problems. Tools who lived in Franklin Kentucky learned of the life saving device after being kept anonymous by the hospital and AbioMed Inc. The device is internal and battery powered and Tools faced an 80 percent death risk within 30 days without the device.
