Grayson Lilly a 10 year old of Aiken spoke to the AMBACS Club about marble investments. He showed prized marbles worth hundreds to thousands of dollars and described pieces like a mustard and a bumble bee. He values a large hand made bumblebee marble from Portland Oregon.
The Aiken County Elections Commission will meet Friday at 4 p.m. to accept Don Denny's resignation and discuss a timely plan for Democrats to replace him. Denny left the state and will not run in the November election against Republican T. Scott Beck as District 83 remains affected by a federal court ruling dissolving several race-based districts.

DOE at SRS plans to abolish its economic development office to meet budget cuts. Projects like Sage Mill Industrial Park and EFCO plant spur job promises, but up to 108 positions may be cut with notices sent Sept 5. Officials earlier warned of a 68 to 98 staff reduction, with 98 layoffs set for Nov 6 after a 60 day notice.
The City of Aiken earned the SAVVY Award from 3CMA for its Greater Aiken Information Network. The city and Aiken Chamber of Commerce co oversee the home page wwwaiken net in a collaborative effort. Dr Mario P Fiori SRS Manager noted the award reflects innovation in communication and marketing.
In Aiken County LD Lever Elementary will offer optional school uniforms next year. Students may choose white dress shirts or navy golf shirts with tan or blue pants for boys and girls. Jumpers and shorts in tan or blue are also allowed, with families weighing the voluntary change.
