Brown faces a 30 year prison term with surgical castration favored over chemical Depo Provera after a Monday hearing. Judge Pyle rejected chemical castration as reversible and ordered Brown to locate his own surgeon for the procedure while upholding the surgical option.
LODI New Jersey AP. After two years his wife and children believed him dead. Bill Catterson saw his case in a missing people documentary and decided to return home. He said marital problems pushed him to leave but the decision came spur of the moment.
North Augusta official relays DNR warning that squirrels may threaten the state in a cautious note. In Charleston a roadside gate reveals a red and black sign warning of dogs, but observers find the yard only holds two dogs toys.
At the Dallas GOP gathering delegates praised a red white and blue platform pledging to hold the line on taxes and win future wars. The platform faced no floor fight as social issue dissent failed to gain traction. Presidents Reagan Ford Dole and Elizabeth Dole spoke as Ferraro and Zaccaro tax disclosures dominated talk.
A public hearing is set for 7 30 this evening at South Aiken High School auditorium to discuss flood control proposals for the Wise Hollow drainage basin in south Aiken. City and county officials along with engineers who studied the problems will answer questions. Officials of five basin subsections will have time to speak. Recommended improvement areas include Whiskey Road to Banks Mill Road channel, Woodwardia Glen Robinwood, College Acres, areas above Pine Log Road, and Pine Log Road culverts.
The Commerce Department will investigate 13 small textile exporting countries over alleged unfair trade practices. Petitions by U S textile groups claim foreign subsidies give producers an unfair export advantage through cash rebates tax credits and other support.
USC Aiken and Aiken Technical College outline fall programs and schedules including registration windows from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 6 30 p.m with later fees. New student orientation Friday at 8 30 a.m in the Student Activities Center and senior citizens can register Friday 1 to 5 p.m. at Suite 101 USC A administration building. Fall at Aiken TEC begins Oct 1 with continued and new student registrations late August and early September. On campus housing Pacer Downs will open housing about 240 students in four person apartments. USCA offers eight week and 16 week sessions plus weekend courses and courses at North Augusta High School.
