Lung cancer pill Iressa shows benefit in some patients
A study finds Iressa can slow tumor growth better than standard chemotherapy as a first line treatment in certain patients. The results, from an Asia-based trial, show the drug works best for Asians, women, nonsmokers with a specific gene mutation, but long-term survival remains uncertain. Experts foresee possible FDA reconsideration and further U.S. studies.
