Lance Cpl. Robert Cansler, son of Jon and Deborah Cansler of Aiken, serves with 2nd FAST Company 3rd Platoon at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. The unit conducts daily anti-terrorism training and deploys globally to protect national security, with missions including site security, naval and embassy protection, and convoy operations. Cansler joined the Marine Corps in August 2003 and has served for six years in operations across Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Macedonia, and Liberia.
A reader notes Lexi Pilz celebrates six today while a sign at Downtown Aiken Post Office lists Ken Makin as the manager on duty. The playful moniker Aiken's Makin is not confirmed as his nickname at work.
