Kepler Space Telescope Retains Hope Amid Fix Setback
NASA called off fixes on the Kepler space telescope after a second gyroscope wheel failed, ending its prime mission. The 2009 craft remains in use for data already collected, with scientists evaluating any salvage from its crippled state and past discoveries of exoplanets and habitable zones.

Nevada petroglyphs oldest in North America
Dried lake bed carvings at Pyramid Lake in Nevada are confirmed as the oldest known North American petroglyphs dating back at least 10,000 years. Researchers date the underlying carbonate layer to about 14,800 years ago and show air exposure from 13,200 to 14,800 years ago and again from 10,500 to 11,300 years ago, suggesting complex artistry long before later examples. The abstract geometric designs resemble early works found in Oregon, with dates and interpretations provided by scientists including Eugene Hattori and Larry Benson.
