Gas prices push costs higher for Jackson area businesses
Local merchants report diesel and gasoline costs eating into profits as fuel bills nearly double. Jackson officials cite a $1 monthly sanitation hike starting Sept 1 while AAA notes regional and national gas averages around 2.4 to 2.56 dollars per gallon. Education officials say diesel in state contracts remains low, yet fuel budgets hit 23.5 million for school base fuel.
