Avondale Mills to reopen Graniteville plants after shutdown

Approximately 1,800 workers will return to work as Avondale Mills restarts operations in Graniteville following a week long shutdown. The company paused all Aiken County plants except Woodhead and Warren to clear inventories while blaming a flood of imports from China.

Aiken historical marker restored after theft

The Aiken County Historical Society repaired and readied for reinstallation an historical marker that was stolen from its post in downtown Aiken. Allen Riddick said the sign was welded and looks brand new after pickup from a local machine shop.
