Marine Ronald Walker was sworn as the 101st member of James L Hammons Marine Corps League Detachment 939 Inc at its regular meeting. Membership Chairman Victor Kotowski noted over half attend each meeting and expressed pride in the turnout with Commandant Ed Hammons and Richard Keating pictured.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office invites residents to join the fifth Citizens Academy from September 10 to November 19. The 11 week program covers patrol techniques criminal investigations and community policing and is free of charge. Classes meet Mondays 7 to 9 p.m. at ACSO with applications due by August 24.
The Kids Cafe and after school program at the Aiken County Recreation Center in Graniteville provides hot free meals and homework help for children ages four to 18. Operated by the Aiken County Parks Recreation and Tourism Department with Golden Harvest Food Bank, it charges 15 dollars weekly and serves meals Monday through Friday.
