Lexington Grapples With Flooding From Tropical Storm Beryl

Councilors push probe into EMS handling of Belvedere park shooting

SLED may probe EMS response after a May 27 shootout at Thomas Park near the Belvedere EMS station. Felisha Curie, 18, died from gunshot wounds. Councilman Willar Hightower urged investigation citing delayed help and conflicting accounts from two EMS technicians. Police found 40 to 50 spent casings. no arrests yet. Former DSS Worker Charged With Theft

A former supervisor at the Aiken County Department of Social Services faces theft charges for allegedly taking nearly $6,000 from 23 trust funds belonging to children under the agency’s care. Cassie Scott Wilson, who left DSS in May, is also charged with unlawful neglect in the November 1991 death of 2-year-old Krystal Scurry. Wilson, who worked 14 years, turned herself in to SLED after a co-worker tip. Morgan said investigators pursued the money and case details.
