Charley drifts north as Florida system weakens past McClellanville
Charley made a second landfall near McClellanville after devastating southwest Florida with 145 mph winds, killing at least 15 and prompting forecasts of up to 15 billion dollars in damage. The storm weakened to 85 mph as it moved toward South Carolina, knocking down trees, power lines, and closing roads while about 100000 customers lost power along the coast.
