Snakebite Victim Improves After Rattler Bite Near Aiken

William Bryant, bitten on the hand by a four foot rattlesnake while moving wood on Old Camp Road, arrived at the hospital quickly and showed improvement. His wife Marcia notes the bite was in a major artery near the thumb. The Bryants, from Pittsburgh, live on Trafalgar Street. Aiken Considered For Feature Film Under South Carolina Push

South Carolina film office works with 14 production companies to lure projects to the state. Aiken is among possible locations for the feature At Close Range, joining Moncks Corner Walterboro McClellanville Greenville and Beaufort. Weather outlook predicts mostly fair tonight with low 70s and tomorrow partly cloudy with a 30 percent rain chance and a 90 degree high.

Aiken Student Michael Rideout to Appear on WIS-TV

USC Aiken computer science major Michael Rideout, winner of the 1984 Atari Fireworld Contest in San Francisco, will be featured on WIS-TV Friday night in the Carolina Traveler segment at 7 p.m. Rideout won a $25,000 jewel studded chalice.

Filing Opens for S C Senate Seats with Two-Week Window

Two weeks of filing for South Carolina Senate seats began at noon today, replacing a prior two-day window. Primaries are set for Oct. 2, with the general election on Nov. 6. Republican Fred Christensen says he plans to file for the district 24 seat covering the Aiken and New Ellenton area.

Film on teaching children to say no to touching shown in Aiken schools

A 14 minute film Better Safe Than Sorry will be shown to grades one through six in Aiken County public schools this fall to teach children to say no get away and tell someone when adults or trusted helpers touch them inappropriately. The program headed by Coalition to Assist Abused Persons and school staff follows reports of doubled sexual abuse cases at the county social services agency.

Derrick Asks For Another River Test

Rep. Butler Derrick requests Augusta officials simulate how reduced Savannah River flow from a proposed hydroelectric plant would affect the river. He asks South Carolina and Georgia to extend the public comment period while the federal Energy Regulatory Commission considers objections. A prior eight hour flow study was conducted to show potential impacts.
