Ex-deputy Nation found not guilty of assault

Former Aiken County deputy Jeff Nation was acquitted of assault and battery in a September 2008 incident in New Ellenton. The jury ruled Nation acted in self defense as he faced an 18 year old who had lunged at him, with the court noting the in car video and closing arguments detailing the events.

Garden keeps East Aiken school grounds thriving

Tammy Duncan, a longtime PTO leader, plants and maintains the East Aiken Elementary garden with help from her family and volunteers. The garden, funded by a Lowe's toolbox grant, features gladiolus, butterfly bushes, a palm tree, and benches for reading. Duncan chairs carnival events, bakes for staff, and aims to keep the space welcoming for students and visitors.

Volunteers Needed at Aiken Railroad Depot

The City of Aiken and the Friends of the Aiken Railroad Depot seek volunteers to answer phones assist visitors book tours and conduct tours with two staffers at all times Tourism Supervisor Barbara Gassman notes depot hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with group tours possible Monday or Tuesday 8 30 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. Training begins Aug 23 and a depot tour for volunteers is offered.
