Slaying charges filed in West Coast attack on Jewish center
A suspect, Buford O Farrow Jr, 97, is jailed after an attack at a Los Angeles Jewish community center that wounded three children and others. Federal prosecutors charged him with five counts of attempted murder following the shooting. A 5-year-old boy remained in critical condition.

Aiken County Chief Deputy Jody Rowland says deputies followed proper procedures in taking into custody Gary E. McClain 45 for raising significant security concerns at an industrial plant. McClain was seized July 29 and taken to Charter Rivers Hospital after Beech Island complaint. He was later released. Rowland noted a 1995 unexecuted warrant for discharging a firearm was found during routine checks.

Fire damages Snazzy's Barber Shop and Beau ty Salon in Aiken
A fire at Snazzy's Barber Shop and Beauty Salon at 1110 Barnwell Ave. N.E. caused extensive smoke and water damage. The blaze began around 8:45 a.m. in a shop corner near an electrical box and may have been fueled by chemicals in hair products. Firefighters subdued the flames in about 20 minutes. All 10 people present escaped injury.
