AP reports a renewed North Vietnamese push with seven rockets and mortars and three ground assaults along the DMZ. At least 15 South Vietnamese positions hit, with 26 North Vietnamese casualties and 21 wounded. Saigon officials call the strikes heavy but casualty figures unclear.
Gov George C Wallace hints he may enter presidential primaries in Florida North Carolina and Tennessee as part of his 1972 campaign. He says no decision has been made and a factor in returning as a third party could be school busing to achieve integration.
California lawmakers sent Gov. Reagan a reduced welfare reform package and a Medi‑Cal overhaul. The governor plans to sign both, with the welfare program taking effect October 1.
