Judge rejects plea deals in deadly Oakland warehouse blaze
In Oakland California Judge James Cramer rejected the plea agreements that would have sent Derick Almena and Max Harris to prison for nine and five years respectively for 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter tied to the 2016 warehouse fire. He cited lack of full responsibility from Almena and sincerity from Harris while voiding the bargains for both. Victims’ relatives condemned the proposed sentences as too lenient as authorities described the warehouse as a dangerous death trap with illegal residence and unprotected exits.
