Idaho Favored for New Nuclear Breeder Plant

Energy Secretary Don Hodel announced an Environmental Impact Study on a heavy water reactor at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory as the preferred site, replacing Savannah River Plant. SCE&G to Become Nuclear Utility with V C Summer Plant

South Carolina Electric and Gas will begin commercial operation of the V C Summer Nuclear Station this fall, marking a decade long, 1.3 billion project. Summer Nuclear Plant Expansion Divides SCE&G PSA

Rebecca McSwain of the V C Summer Nuclear Information Center outlines SCE&G and Santee Cooper’s partnership with the South Carolina Public Service Authority and plans to sell another third of the plant stake. If successful, SCE&G would hold 300 000 kilowatts of the 900 000 kilowatt capacity, boosting excess generating capacity to 55 percent amid projected rate impacts and demand forecasts for the 1990s.
