Family event promotes reading at State Museum Columbia
A Read and Romp 2008 program fundraiser invites families to explore children's books with characters like Curious George and Pooh. The event Sunday Oct 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the State Museum in Columbia features storybook stations, face painting, a Cocky visit, crafts, and themed booths to support Reach Out and Read South Carolina. Admission is 10 per child. adults and under 2s free. Proceeds benefit RORSC and registration closes Sept 26.

Teen rider Tyler Mortis makes equestrian history twice
Tyler Mortis, a teenager from Aiken County Pony Club, won the Vieva Perrin Memorial Award for Horsemanship for a second consecutive year at the United States Pony Club Show Jumping Championships. He balanced riding with academics and varsity basketball while rehabbing his horse Caralad and training under Daniel Geitner and Richard Lamb after relocating from New Jersey.
