Descendants of pre Civil War slave reunite at Bets Road home
Nearly 200 relatives gathered Sunday at the Ward Lee home site off Bettis Academy Road in Trenton for a ninth family reunion. Attendees traveled from Philadelphia Key West New York Las Vegas Norfolk Savannah and nearby Aiken and Trenton. The gathering honors Cilucangy later Ward Lee a Congo born enslaved man aboard The Wanderer who was sold after 1859. Lee remained in South Carolina after the war died in 1914 leaving land kept by his descendants.

Heart disease death rate in South Carolina ranks second worst
South Carolina reports 224.2 heart and cardiovascular disease deaths per 100,000, second only to Mississippi at 255.8. Woman lends horses to community events from Cantermerry Stables
