Numbers Of Poor Decrease In 1977 Income Rise Is Erased By Inflation

Census Bureau data show the 1977 median family income at 16010, up 7 percent from 1976 but inflation at 6.5 percent eroded most gains. The number of people in poverty fell to 24.7 million in 1977 from 25.9 million in 1975, with 1.2 million fewer poor than in 1975. The 1977 poverty line for a non farm family of four was 6191. Gray Day With Highs In The 90s Forecast
