One Ton Plutonium Moved From South Carolina Site
The government quietly moved one metric ton of weapons grade plutonium from the Savannah River Site near Aiken and Charleston after a 2017 federal court order. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson called the move a victory while noting ongoing legal efforts to secure $200 million in fines from the Energy Department. About 17 metric tons remain at the Savannah River Site, a 2300 square mile complex south of Aiken.
