Pigs note stand in for historic plan behind Legare House
The Design Review Board rejected one of five subdivision designs by Mark Thompson to build five houses behind the Legare Morgan House on Lauriel Street. Plans ranged 2955 to 3251 square feet, mostly two stories with wrought iron rails. Thompson pulled remaining applications after the defeat, promising a rework. Local opponents say the large homes clash with downtown Aiken’s historic character. Gregory Smith urged preservation concerns from former commission leadership.
