Public meeting on Hitchcock Parkway widening today
The S C Subcommittee of the Augusta Regional Transportation Study meets at 4 p m in the Sandlapper Room of the Aiken County Government Center to review Hitchcock Parkway widening plans. Officials present concept designs with narrower center medians and 14 foot shared lanes, plus mult i use paths and walls in places. Updates will also cover the Silver Bluff Road corridor project including resurfacing to three lanes and added turn lanes. Parking in the building rear lot with elevator access to the first floor.

Fourth shoplifting attempt ends with arrest in Aiken Mall
Crystal Grey, 32, and an unidentified male were seen loading clothing into a cart at Belk and placing items in a suitcase. Grey, charged with her fourth shoplifting offense, remained in custody as merchandise valued at 653 dollars was recovered. A separate Subway robbery on Whiskey Road involved two men demanding cash from safes, with no injuries reported. A man was later detained after threatening self harm with a flammable chemical during a domestic dispute on Piper Road, SWAT negotiated, no charges filed yet.

A 56-year-old Aiken woman and an 18-year-old North Augusta man were detained for shoplifting at local stores on Richland Avenue and Aiken Mall. An unknown man allegedly stole beer on Hampton Avenue. A 69-year-old Aiken woman was targeted by a scammer claiming misdemeanor charges. A Williston woman accuses an ex-boyfriend of using her stolen credit card. Aiken residents reported stolen or damaged phones and keys, with gunfire reported on Park Avenue but no evidence found. Sheriff’s reports note a family member stealing from an Aiken business, plus burglaries and vehicle thefts in nearby areas.
