Clarence “Cooney” Palmer credits a pair of donated safety glasses with saving his vision during a Sept 9 2003 mine blast near Fallujah Iraq. The 122nd Engineer Battalion guard said the glasses plus his body armor and helmet kept his right eye intact and helped him recover back home in May after nine months deployment.

Michael J. Barefield 24 of 679 Dragstrip Road turned himself in after investigators found pit bulls and fighting equipment behind his home on Dragstrip Road. He faces animal fighting charges and four counts of ill treatment. The dogs and treadmill were seized and are held by animal control.
