BMW Offers Cut-Rate Car Deal To Workers

Spartanburg AP reports BMW invites workers at its first USS plant to lease new vehicles at a discount through a payroll deduction program. The Associate Vehicle Pro gram lets employees drive factory-fresh BMWs for 10,000 miles before returning and ordering a new car. Susan Crocker notes the goal is to place BMWs in employee parking lots, but pricing details were not disclosed.

Bakker Now Living In Private Residence

ASHEVILLE AP Former television evangelist Jim Bakker has left a Salvation Army half way house and is now under house arrest in a private residence in western North Carolina. Bakker, 53, was released on Tuesday and immediately took up residence with his 18 year old son Jamie at an undisclosed home in the Asheville area. Bakker also has regained his driver's license and is commuting to and from a job near his new home. Bakker still has to check in daily with the halfway house by telephone or personal visit. COLUMBIA AP At least two people have died on South Carolina highways this weekend, including a West Columbia man whose car was struck by a train Friday night. Christopher T. Raines, 23, died at 7:55 p.m. when the car he was driving struck a train near U.S. 1 in Lexington County. Elwin Leroy Sharpe, 53, of Columbia, died about 8:10 Friday night when he was hit by a truck while bicycling on Bluff Road in Richland County.
