A House subcommittee drafts a report accusing the Atomic Energy Commission of concealing radiation dangers from downwind communities near the Nevada Test Site in the 1950s and 1960s. The panel says the AEC suppressed evidence of harmful radiation effects and should pay damages.
About 70 Iranian demonstrators were guarded by 250 police and jeered by a few New Yorkers as they boarded vans under cover of darkness to depart the Islamic center. The group had faced a hostile protest of roughly 400 people that blocked their return to Washington.
Danny Jack Foley aged 29 of Lincolnton was arrested on a fugitive warrant for a shooting at the Lucky Lady Tavern in North Augusta. Authorities accuse Foley in connection with the April 11 death of Michael Ray Brantley found in the tavern parking lot.
