The Sherman Construction Company Inc of Greenville won the East Aiken Elementary School project with a low bid of 869000. Six bids ranged up to 1074000. Work starts in 30 to 40 days on a 28 acre site off Highway 215 east of Aiken and is to be finished for the 1971 72 school year.
The Aiken Support Your Local Police Committee plans a Monday City Council petition to appoint a board of impartial citizens to probe the dismissal of Police Chief James Brown. About 80 people attended the Heritage Room meeting at Farmers and Merchants Bank, and a letter-writing campaign for a public hearing was proposed. Linda Kasabian sobbed as Charles Manson defense attorney Irving Kanarek flashed a color photo of Sharon Tate in deathly, gory detail.
