Ivan's 91 foot wave among largest seen in hurricane history
A NOAA and Naval Research Laboratory study reports Hurricane Ivan spawned waves towering over 90 feet offshore south of Mississippi. Data from seafloor pressure sensors show 146 waves with 24 above 50 feet and one at 91 feet, a rare but not rogue phenomenon linked to strong storms.
