Ten years after separation two conjoined twins thrive apart
SCARSDALE N Y A decade after being separated from the Philippines the once joined twins now live separate lives. One son uses an iPad plays video games and dances to Michael Jackson while the other faces significant mobility and speech challenges. The brothers born joined at the crown of their heads required Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx to separate them. Their mother Arlene Aguirre recalls doctors urging her to choose which twin would live. Dr Robert Marion says the boys, now 12, would have withered without intervention and remains proud of their survival and progress. Montefiore president Dr Steven Safyer notes the hospital’s role in helping them become distinct individuals.
