Noisy Kids and Patience in Public
Abby Dear Readers reports readers clamor over poorly behaved children in public and mothers' protests against insensitivity. A Phoenix reader cites Joan Wester Anderson urging patience and selective exposure for toddlers, noting adults must share responsibility. The piece advocates polite praise for well behaved children and parents while managers can reserve certain venues for adults only.

Trends in 1989 Emmy Nominations Highlight Big Casts and Peak Winners

A rare influx of rookies like Twin Peaks with 14 nominations in eight April episodes, and a preference for large ensembles as all top nominees feature big casts. Yet some shows with sizable casts like Roseanne and Full House earned little. Emmys favor innovative, cutting edge programs over mass appeal.
