Williams Under Fire Over Resignation Debate In Aiken County

During last night’s meeting Edmunds urged council to follow the prior year's ordinance. Audience members blasted the four Democrats as former vice chairman Wade Brodie called the council hypocritical and joked about removing officials while praising Don Williams. North Augusta Council Advances Home Rule Government

North Augusta City Council moved toward a Home Rule form with first-reading ordinances setting mayor pay at 150 dollars monthly and council at 50 dollars, plus staggered terms and election method. Also approved were public safety department ordinances and officer installation dates. City Administrator Carey F. Smith cited a healthy financial picture aided by new construction.

Hospital attracts new doctors to Aiken, Nesbit says

Nesbit Jr says the Aiken Community Hospital has drawn at least six new physicians to the county and will lure more. A 1973 county survey showed 48 physicians, a ratio of 1,933 residents per doctor, with many locals noting hospital access as the key inducement to practice locally.
