Video poker crackdown fear spikes in Spartanburg
Duncan Henry Lord of the Carolina Family Alliance trained camera and notepad on convenience stores in Spartanburg County to document video gambling machines and beer sales. He will forward license numbers to the state Revenue Department which planned Aug enforcement but court rulings halted the effort. Lord claims to be reporting a crime and cites a 1942 alcohol ban near gambling. Associate Al Holcombe aided the effort. June Bullard, a Duncan store manager, argued for uniform restrictions on gambling games.

Mace Sent to Prison After Escape Capture
Aiken County Detention escapee Travis Mace, 27, is jailed at Lee Correctional Institute in Bishopville after deputies captured him early Saturday. He faces burglary, assault and battery with intent to kill, larceny, resisting arrest, and escape charges. Police say he evaded capture for over a week, led multiple high speed chases, and was found asleep under a cloth covered table on Pine Log Road. More charges may follow.
