Return of the Loggerhead to Kiawah Island Shores
On Kiawah Island a dedicated team led by Chris Hutton monitors nightly nesting of Caretta Caretta sea turtles from May to October. The program, under a Fish and Wildlife permit, relocates nests to protect eggs and hatchlings, reporting 50,000 eggs collected since 1975 and over 28,000 hatchlings released.
