Raleigh AP reports a decision to approve a low level radioactive waste site for eight states has been pushed back by North Carolina regulators by 15 months, delaying opening to 1997. A memo to the Low Level Waste Management Authority outlines the delay as Barnwell landfill closes December 31, 1995 and NC had planned a 1996 replacement.
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH AP More than 20 Sun Beach Service lifeguards went back to work after accusing their employer of unfair conditions and unsafe practices. The dispute ended after a midnight meeting with owners and city representatives. The lifeguards complained of no overtime pay and no daily lunch breaks. Charleston AP A once scenic Ashepoo Combahee and Edisto river route is now nine miles of barren land after over applied herbicides. Cam Lay of Clemson University says enforcement action will be taken against the violation of pesticide regulations.
