Officials say Biden underfunds nuclear arsenal modernization
Officials warned that Biden's FY2022 request of about 15.5 billion for the NNSA weapons program minimally covers near term needs but risks long term security as inflation erodes funding. Nuclear Weapons Council chair Stacy A. Cummings said production has atrophied and deterrence could be affected without adequate funds. Senators Inhofe and Rogers joined by Rep Wilson pressed for inflation-adjusted, robust spending to meet national security needs.
