Aiken budget panel mulls small fee hikes to close gap

During a budget work session the Administrative Committee proposed minor increases in several county fees to balance the 2005 2006 budget. A $12 000 gain from a $1 per ton landfill tax plus an $18 000 boost for registering elections machinery storage and a $25 000 rise from various service fees would fund deficits. Planning and Zoning sees the largest impact with map fee increasing to 450. Final decisions await November year end figures and possible carryover funds. Council members debated growth funding and criticized fee hikes as the city has done in past years.
