Robert Scott McNeal 40 of Avalon Lane was arrested on murder and gun charges after a Tuesday night shootout in Augusta left Carlton Lamb Jr 34 dead. Investigators say McNeal and two men drove from South Carolina to buy drugs. a bad deal led to a gunfight. Lamb died at MCG Hospital. Winter Sr 16 was in serious condition. McNeal held without bond.
Odessa K. Chavous has taken over as chief executive officer of The Margaret J. Weston Medical Center on July 24 after Tony Dunn was fired April 23. The center faces HRSA funding penalties up to 600000 if special conditions are not met by November 1. Board chair Rev. Lester Smalls confirmed the hire as a special meeting is planned, with most discussions in executive session. The Aiken Standard did not receive prior notice of the meeting.
