Sen. Ernest Hollings says the US Coast Guard will monitor the area around the Confederate submarine Hunley to keep it safe for ongoing scientific research. Officials in Columbia expect to assess the Hunley by year end.
Columbia AP report says Mool Shekhawat, vice president for business and finance at South Carolina State University, has two counts of transferring university funds to a personal investment account. The case was referred to the state grand jury for possible indictment. grand jury proceedings are closed to the public.
