A letter-writer praises Armenian miniaturist Hagop Sandaldjian who carves or engraves scenes on hair, rice grains, and dust. Aiken County's elementary schools need a few good men
In Aiken County, only 12 male teachers work below sixth grade with four in non physical education roles. Andrew Hendrix at East Aiken Elementary and Steve Newell at Jefferson Elementary say male teachers offer needed influence. Hendrix mentors 24 students daily in a small class. Newell teaches about 500 at Jefferson and similarly many at Clearwater Middle. Both highlight patience and personal bonds, noting many children live with a single parent or none. Hendrix, a 21 year Air Force veteran, and Newell, 23 at start, describe rewarding ties with students and hope for future roles in administration or broader teaching impact.
