Meeting on transgender issues at local church

Night of Games in Johnston to raise funds for chamber

The Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce and Johnston Peach Blossoms Festival host a Night of Games at 6 p.m. May 5 at the American Legion building in Johnston. Tickets cost 10 per card, 15 for two. Proceeds support chamber programs.

SCDOT Starts Vaucluse Road Bypass 118 Safety Upgrade

The SCDOT has begun work at the Vaucluse Road and Bypass 118 intersection in Aiken to reduce crashes. The project widens the intersection adds turning lanes and upgrades signals. Safety officials led by Joey Riddle and Tony Fallon describe using tools from the department’s toolbox to improve safety.

Traffic crashes at intersection spurred four year study

Tony Fallon Riddle reported 15 crashes at the intersection over four years. Six injuries and the rest property damage. The pattern reflects crashes relative to similar intersections and highlights a signal operating without turning lanes.

Statewide crash study under way with $1.16 million project

DOT officials report crash data reviews to identify hot spots and apply toolbox tools to reduce crashes. The SCDOT project in the area has a Oct 31 completion target, contingent on weather, with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state match. Utility relocation and lane controls may cause closures during construction. Christina Cleveland is county government.

Johnny Turner and partners teach Tai Chi at First Presbyterian Church gym from 9 30 to 10 30 a m on Monday Wednesday and Friday. The Leadership Aiken County Class 2015 16 hosts a VIP reception and project unveiling May 6 at Newberry Hall with hors d oeuvres cash bar and silent auction. Proceeds benefit arts in local schools. Taste of Home Cooking School Returns to USCA Etherredge Center

The Taste of Home Cooking School and Back to Basics Expo arrives at USCA Etherredge Center from 2 to 6 p.m. with 15 vendors and a 6:30 p.m. show.
