Death verdict upheld in Aiken slaying case

Willie Hicks lost his bid for a new trial before the South Carolina Supreme Court. The court, with Chief Justice Ernest Finney Jr. dissenting, found no error in penalty phase instructions though the decision now moves to the U S Supreme Court. Hicks killed Aiken police retiree A C Hagan in December 1995 after gaining entry to the home and was sentences to die.

Students Get The Blues Observance Aims To Prevent Child Abuse

In observance of National Child Abuse Prevention Month the Aiken Woman's Club helped several local schools present Blue Monday to remind students abuse is unacceptable. A handout urged steps to stay safe: Say No Get Away Tell Someone And Sometimes Yell. Warrenville Elementary held its observance Friday as teachers supported the project and broader districts adopted the idea.
