Man Shot During Struggle With Wagener Policeman
Wagener police officer Carol West has been formally charged with murder and suspended after the shooting death of 22 year old Miles David Quattlebaum of Salley. The incident occurred at Deputy Sheriff Ed West’s home on Highway 215. Quattlebaum allegedly demanded keys to a patrol car and lunged for a gun as West and others attempted to restrain him. He died from a single chest wound after being taken to Aiken County Hospital and then University Hospital.

Council Set To Act On Rezoning In Aiken
Aiken city council will hold the second and final reading on a rezoning ordinance for 18.6 acres on the north side of Aiken near Chesterfield Street and Columbia Drive. If approved the land would switch from single family to multiple family residential and fund a 2.5 million housing project for low income families by the Aiken Public Housing Authority.
