About 200 antiwar activists were arrested in Washington after blocking the Selective Service System headquarters main entrance for a second day. Demonstrators formed a Carpet of bodies and urged workers to walk over them as a Vietnam War memorial. Police began arrests after two warnings.
Secretary of State William P. Rogers summoned the chief U S negotiator from the Paris talks, Ambassador David Bruce, for a private, up-to-date report as SEATO allies wrap a two day meeting. No new peace initiative is planned. Rogers will travel to Ankara then onto a week long trip to four Arab states and Israel.
An explosion hit the Bank of America branch at the Kaiser Center in Oakland. Police said there was significant damage but no injuries reported. The blast is among several similar Bank of America incidents across the state in recent weeks.
Teamster Union President James R. Hoffa 58 returned to a federal prison after nearly three hours before a federal grand jury in New York City. He offered no comment and was not granted immunity. Officials did not reveal reasons for his appearance but reports say he was asked about Meyer Lansky and ties to pension fund loans. Hoffa is serving three years for mail fraud and jury tampering.
London AP reports the Duke of Norfolk rejects hot pants for Royal Ascot, stating only long trousers suits are allowed in front of Queen Elizabeth. Ascot officials had considered ensembles including hot pants for mid June racing. The Duke, as the Queen's representative, insists on traditional attire.
The market opened slightly higher after a modest Tuesday rise with advances leading declines on the NYSE. The Dow was nearly unchanged at 947.09, the NYSE index rose to 57.56, and volume climbed to 21.25 million shares. Ling-Temco-Vought gained 1 percent to 26, Itek 1 to 50, Bausch & Lomb fell 12 to 107, and Chrysler rose 2 to 32.
North Augusta High School resumed normal classes after a peaceful boycott by black students protesting the failure to elect black cheerleaders. School leaders met with student groups and officials to address black teacher representation and staffing goals.

Rep Carroll Campbell seeks to bar X rated films at outdoor theaters near roads, risking fines. Harper also plans a National Guard pension of 100 dollars monthly after 20 years of service.

Waves of U S warplanes attacked North Vietnamese positions on three fronts to aid Cambodian and South Vietnamese troops. B52 bombers hit bases in eastern Cambodia near Highway 7 and near the Chup rubber plantation while helicopter missions and airstrikes supported task forces across Cambodia and South Vietnam. An Army UH1 helicopter was shot down near Da Nang with two crewmen wounded, raising U S aircraft losses to 7 743.
Thunderstorms dropped about 1.1 inches on the Aiken area with two storm lines crossing the state from a north Georgia disturbance. Minor accidents were investigated, but Public Safety Director James C. Busbee said there was little damage and no injuries as showers continue today.
The South Carolina Legislature approves a bill to ratify the 18-year-old voting age amendment. The Senate and House concur to conform with Congress wording and push for broad voter access and more polling places.
