Rain short of forecast leaves Aiken drought lingering
By 9 p.m. Monday only about a quarter inch of rain had fallen on Aiken's Northside, delivering little relief from a 6.5 inch yearly deficit. The National Weather Service lists a moderate drought as Channel 6 meteorologist George Myers notes the heavy rain came from a front moving from Raleigh-Durham to Savannah and did not heat enough to produce heavy showers. The next front may bring a few showers this weekend with a 30 percent chance of precipitation and warmer temperatures into the 70s and 80s by week’s end.
