Accidental shooting kills 7-year-old in Aiken County

A seven year old boy was shot in the head and killed when his six year old brother found a loaded pistol at their grandfather’s home and pulled the trigger. The incident happened after 3 p.m. as the children wandered from 252 Williams Lane to 249 Williams Lane. The bullet struck the victim in the left temple and he later died at Aiken Regional Medical Center. The coroner said the children had been told not to enter the house while unsupervised. The grandfather was supervising the kids at their home, and no teenagers were present.

Murder probe continues in Keenan O Mailia case

North Augusta Public Safety and SLED investigators pursue leads in the murder of 6 year old Keenan O Mailia. Keenan left Georgetown Villa Apartments on April 17 to ride to Riverview Park and was found dead April 18 in a wooded area near Hammond Ferry Road after an all night search. An autopsy confirmed homicide with evidence of sexual assault and strangulation. A press briefing is scheduled for 3 pm Monday at North Augusta Public Safety. Tips to 279-2121 or 441-4274.

Thursday public forum on school safety in Midland Valley High

Plans for a 7 pm Thursday public meeting at Midland Valley High School aim to address school safety after the Littleton tragedy. The session will feature a school safety task force, likely armed by this afternoon, with support from Dr. John Bradley and Dr. Bill Gallman.
