For 25 years area members of the Aiken Bicycle Club have rode together offering safety and camaraderie. Club members range from 13 to 70s with varied bikes from older models to carbon fiber top gear. They ride for exercise and social contact while sharing the road and sometimes relying on a road czar to monitor dangerous spots.
The Aiken cycling club prepares for the Four Loop Century 2004 a 100 mile race in four 25 mile loops starting at the H Odell Weeks Activities Center. Entry is $20 includes insurance food and a T shirt. Riders may enter without completing all loops and questions go to Foster at 643-0808 or Karen Daily at kdaily aikenstandard com.
A Mountain Press report describes Dan River closing its Sevierville Tennessee plant with layoffs. The severance included a $100 Wal Mart gift card a Dan River cap a calculator a plaque and three red headed Barbie dolls. Some workers welcomed the dolls while others found the gesture odd.
