Can aspirin truly prevent cancer amid mixed study results
Research weighs whether aspirin lowers cancer risk. The debate centers on dose differences, COX enzyme involvement, and whether observational data justify using a common heart medicine for cancer prevention. Experts caution about ulcers and bleeding and call for firmproof before broad recommendations.
Aspirin Linked to Lower Cancer Risks in Some Studies
American Cancer Society researchers report adult-strength aspirin for five years or more lowers colorectal cancer by about 30 percent and prostate cancer by 20 percent, with a 15 percent drop in overall cancer risk. Nurses Health Study notes lower cancer death with low to moderate aspirin, but earlier results were inconsistent and some trials show no cancer prevention effect.
