Five terrorists attacked the West German Embassy in Stockholm killing one person and taking the ambassador the military attaché and others hostage. The group, linked to the Baader Meinhof gang, demanded prisoners be freed and threatened TNT if police stormed the building.
Defense attorneys for Joan Little pursue a second motion to quash the first degree murder indictment alleging improper grand jury action and selective evidence. The issue follows a judge denial that the grand jury was representative of the community in Beaufort County.
Navy records show over 11 million gallons of fuel valued at about 4.2 million were dumped or lost at sea during 1974. Of this total 6.2 million gallons were labeled contaminated, with the remainder as inventory losses. Controversy followed the Independence fuel dump off South Carolina.
In Lisbon moderate Portuguese politicians view Friday's assembly election as the final chance for democracy. Leftist military rulers ban parties regarded as extremes and shape the constitution. Moderates expect a large majority to prompt the officers to curb radical colleagues who seized control with Communist backing.
Aiken County officials debated the authority of Litter Officer George McCormick who may arrest violators under litter laws. County attorney William G. Lynn Jr. said the governor and law enforcement powers authorize enforcement. The board asked Lynn to formalize his opinion on the officer’s powers after the commission questioned the arrest authority.

Colonel Cash Bryant 82 of 502 Highland Park Terrace died when his car ran off South Carolina Secondary 113 and struck a tree near Montmorenci. Funeral services scheduled at Posey’s Chapel Graniteville with burial in Warrenville Cemetery. Survived by widow Ruby Harling Bryant two stepdaughters a stepson and a sister.
Congress approves a $327 million House aid bill and a $250 million Senate bill to authorize use of U.S. troops to evacuate Americans and Vietnamese from South Vietnam. President Ford supports humanitarian aid while urging review of broader military funding amid debate over risk and sovereignty.
A local beauty contest for New Ellenton the Sweetest Male of All will be held at New Ellenton High School during the Atomic City Festival. Events include hot pants and evening gown competition, a parade at 10 a.m., flea market bake sale clown drop and snake pit, wrist wrestling, fireworks at dusk and a street dance. Proceeds benefit town recreation equipment and Christmas decorations.
Mrs. Jo Ann Price of Aiken is named as a consumer representative on the South Carolina Dairy Commission by Governor James B. Edwards. She joins incumbent member Mrs Al len Lambright and other appointees Gregory D. Shorey Jr. and Raymond W. Sifly. The panel regulates milk prices amid criticism of high costs. Price opposes price-fixing and backs eliminating price controls.
The Carolina Bird Club plans its annual spring gathering in Aiken on May 2 to 4 with Ramada Inn as headquarters. Registration occurs Friday from 3 to 7 p.m at the Ramada Hospitality Room, with non members able to register for lectures or field trips. Hosts include Aiken County Bird Club members and the Augusta Audubon Society.
