Autopsy planned in Newberry to decide if Graniteville man Leonard Mathis died from chlorine exposure related to the January derailment. The case could raise the death toll to ten as records and toxicology are reviewed, with 250 injured and over 20 lawsuits filed.
Southern Business & Development editor Mike Randle says a near 1400 acre site at Sage Mill in Aiken County is among four Southeastern locations under consideration for Project Pinetree. The unnamed automaker, possibly Toyota Audi or Kia, seeks a Charleston or Savannah style facility with final four including Limestone County Alabama and Chattanooga Tennessee.
Joy Groomes Batchelor recalls the loss of her three sons Ashton 15 Brandon 14 and Drew 11 in a head on collision July 11 2002. Their father Michael Batchelor 37 received 40 years for supplying beer and allowing Ashton to drive. She seeks new laws to prevent similar tragedies and protect children.
Aiken City Council member Jane Vaughters disclosed that no complaint was filed with the State Ethics Commission about her remarks at a March 22 zoning meeting.
